RESPECT...It's A Brooklyn Attitude!
Sadly, this is the last term in office for our beloved Borough
President, "Mr. Brooklyn", Marty Markowitz--- Special Guy, True Brooklynite!. "YO- 4 MORE YEARS, 4 MORE YEARS!!!.
Enuff Said!.
NEWS: July 15th., 2010...As Of The 2010 Macy*s Fishing Contest, Officials Have Ceased The Tradition
Of Tagging A Large Fish (named R.H. Macy), and releasing It Into The Lake. It's A Humane Related Thing. YouWill
Find Notice of The Past Tradition Within Our Website. Please Now Disregard It.
***NEWS: May, 2010...Thanks to the generosity and thoughtfulness of Prospect Park-Based Group 'FIDO"
(Friendship In Dog Ownership), NEW "Fishing Line Recycle Bins" Have Been Placed at Spots around the Lake in Brooklyn's Prospect
Park!. '"PLEASE USE THEM TO DISPOSE OF YOUR USED FISHING LINE!." You Can Find One Lakeside Along Wellhouse Drive. If
you spot anyone throwing TRASH in The Park Lake, immediatley Dail 3-1-1 To Report it...No Questions asked, just "DO IT!."
Lake has recently become a mess, with waterfoul being injured by such trash, icluding careless angler/angler's disposing of
their Used Fishing Line, Hooks, etc. in the Park Lake.
Sorry to say that I have Had My Fill Of Some Park-User's On The Prospect Park Facebok Page, complaining
about the Trash Situation. Here's Your Solution..Instead of taking the time to Post A Complaint, Get Your Ass Out And Volunteer
To "Pick It Up Yourselves!." As for that "Geese Thing" Recently, Give The Rest Of Us A Break Already!!!. Better Than
Having Possibly Dead Airline Pasengers!!!. Thank You.

The PROSPECT PARK LAKE. NYC FRESHWATER ANGLERS' FAVORITE FISHING SPOT! |

PROSPECT PARK. The Place Where If You Are An Avid Regurlar "Park
User", "Everybody Knows Your Name!."
I am Just One Of The "Great Many!."
FACT: "The PROSPECT PARK LAKE IS NEW YORK STATES LEADING BASS
FISHING LAKE!"---"WITH THE MOST CONCENTRATION" OF STOCKED BASS Than In Any Other Lake Or Pond In NYC, L.I. and The State!." One Well Know Prospect Park LMB Is Know As "Pablo Escobar." He Is Well Sought After.
SO WE EMPHASIZE THE POINT, WHY HEAD NORTH OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS, OUT
EAST TO LONG ISLAND, To NJ, Or A PRIVATE LAKE YA HAVE TO PAY TO FISH IN, IN PA., TO FIND GOOD FRESHWATER
FISHING, WHEN WE HAVE IT "RIGHT HERE IN YOUR OWN URBAN BACKYARD." And WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS NO LESS!. YES, RIGHT HERE
IN BROOKLYN, U.S.A.!.
This "IS" The Park To Fish!, "Yeah, BOYEEE!."
The Audobon Center At Prospect Park Is OPEN Year-Round (Closed Certain Major Holidays and
Due To Special Events).
Hot Weather Fishing Tip- It Is Better Not to fish In The Hot Blazing Sun in the
Main Portion Of The Lake, Nor The Open, Uncovered Northside Of The 'Peninsula.' Fish Go Deep, Or Seek Shade Cover Areas. Fish Mornings and Late Afternoon Till Sundown. When The Temps Climb
to 100 Degress or Above, Or Below 40, Stay Home!. Trust Us!. Also, Days With Heavy Winds Sweeping Across The Water.
THIS GOES FOR ALL NYC PARKS LAKES And PONDS!. Also...Do Not Fish The (Prospect Park, and/or Other NYC Parks )Lakes and Ponds Right
After A Nor'Easter and/or Heavy Rain Storm. Esp. If Yo Notice the Water Is Over The Shoreline. For You Will Also Have
A Bad Day Fishing. Stay Home!!!

Prospect Park Has Them Too!!! |
PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN, U.S.A.: Home Of "Brooklyn's Only Urban
Forest", Its Only Freshwater Lake, And Popular Citywide Freshwater Fishing Spot. Another Olmstead and Vaux Creation. "A Park
For All People."
This Park In Paricular Is A Big Part Of My Family History. Both My Late Dad, And A Late Uncle (His
Brother), Were Both Full-Time Park Employees Of Prospect Park/NYC DPR, For Over 30-Years, Up Until The Early 1960's. Generations
Of The Family Grew Up And Lived In Park Slope, And Windsor Terrace. In Reality, "The Park Was Their Year-Round Playground."
They Literally Grew Up In This Great Park. So You Can See Why I Have A Personal Addicition To It, And Concern For It. I started
Fishing In The Lake At An Early Age. I Too Was A Young Participant In The Macy's Fishing Contest Way Back When (When A&S
Sponsored It).
As for Our Brooklyn Parks, Two Of My Brothers Were Active With The Parks. One Was A Seasonal
Employee. The Other (Along With Other concerned Community Residents) Were Active In The Founding Of The 'Mellett Park
Playground Association' (A Playground Park Located On Avenue 'V', East 13-14th.
Street's, Brooklyn). It Was Rundown. The Park House Was Burned Down By Local Youth Who Used The Park To Consume Alcohol And
Drugs. They Organized, Successfully Cut Through The Mass Of "Political Red Tape" And Had That Park/Playground Renovated. The 'Mellett
Park Playground Association' No Longer Exists. How Ever The Activism Work They Did Lives On In This Very Popular
Community Park. Angler Memories: When I Was A Young Angler, While Fishing With My Older Brother Ken, By
That Old Bent Tree Lakeide Near Vanderbilt Street, I Fell Into The Lake While Casting. A Memory That Still Sticks With Me,
And Yet Another Story All Together. But Enough About The Family And I.
"A VERY SPECIAL
PLACE!"--- "Enter The Park From One Of Its Many Entrances, And You Enter A Special Place Where The Hustle, Bustle,
And Noise Of The Big City Instantly Disappear. A Place Where Folks Of all Cultures, Nationalaties, Religions Mingle. More
So Than Outside The Parks Fences. Come, Take A Stroll, Bicycle, Fish, Jog, Fly A Kite, Roller Blade, Do Some Horse Back Riding,
Rent A Seasonal Pedal Boat For A Personal Tour Of The Lake, Take A (Paid) Guided Boat Tour Around The Lake, Enjoy Winter
Ice Skating At The Wollman Rink, Ride The Carosuel, Have A Picnic, Visit The ZOO, Explore The Parks Natural Habitat, Explore
The Audobon Center, Or Just Stretch Out A Blanket On A Grassy Meadow And Get Some Sun. The Park Has Much To Offer, Year-Round".
Better Still, Take Part In A Volunteer Event Within The Park.
For OVER 57 Years NOW, PROSPECT PARK Has Been The
Official Home Of The Annual July, 10-Day, MACY*S FISHING CONTEST (For Youth 15 And Under). "The Largest And Most Popular"
Organized Annual Youth Fishing Contest In The Greater NYC Metro-Area. The Contest did disappear for a number of
years. If not for the personal efforts of Tupper Thomas, President, Prospect Park Alliance, it would not be in existence today.
We adults and our kids owe her a Big Hug and Thanks.

***SPECIES
OF FISH FOUND IN The PROSPECT LAKE: SM BASS; LM BASS; BLUE GILL; BULLHEAD CATFISH; CHAIN PICKEREL; MUSKIE; CARP.
Note:
There Is An Abundant, Robust Population Of Both BLUE GILL And LARGEMOUTH BASS In This Lake, Out Of All NYC P&R Lakes And
Ponds To Be Exact.
The Lake Is (Man-Made) Exactly 60 Acres.
Note: The PROSPECT PARK LAKE IS NYC DPR'S "GEM"
MAN-MADE 60-ACRE LAKE. QUITE FRANKLY SPEAKING, "The BEST NYC DPR FRESHWATER FISHING LAKE IN NYC!". It's No Wonder That Anglers
From Within The City Limits, And From Outside Of Them (L.I. Especially) Travel To The Park To Fish This Lake. Important Note:Fishermen
Are Prohibited From Renting The Seasonal Pedal Boats To Fish The Lake With. This I Must State Is A Big "Ongoing Controversial
Sticking Point" Which Park Anglers Want Reversed.
One Question I, Most Other P. Park Anglers, As Well As Park Officials
Are Always Asked Is, "Just Exactly How Deep Is The Prospect Park Lake ?." Well, Here's The Answer: Well, The The Parks
1.5 Mile-long Water System Consists Of The Upper And Lower Pools, The Binnenwater, The Lullwater And The Main Portion Of The
Lake. It Varies In Depths Up To Eleven Feet, Located In The Upper Pool By The Long Meadow. Fishing Is Not Permissable
In Either The Upper Or Lower Pool (Known Way Back When In Time As "The Swan Boat Lake"). Get Caught Fish Either Pool And You
Will Either Be Removed, Or Quite Possibly Issued A Summons. There Are No Big Game Fish In Either Pool, And Waterfoul Use Them
As A Primary feeding Ground. The LAKE (The Main Portion Of It): Averages Six Feet, With The Deepest Point About 7 Feet
(Though Over The Years Many Have Proclaimed It Is As Being As Much As 15 Ft. Deep, In The Center). The Upper And Lower
Binnen Pools: Average About 4 Feet In Depth. The Binnen Pool: Is Nine Feet Deep In The Center. The Lullwater (Or "Calm
Water". It Starts At The "Terrace Bridge" And Runs North Up To The "Audobon Center" At The Landmark Boathouse: It Is About
5 Feet Deep. (Source: The Prospect Park Alliance Marketing Dept., And Natural Resources Staff).
FISHING IS NOT
PERMITTED IN The "BINNENWATER" Watercourse, Nor The "BINNENWATER POOLS" (Formerly Knows As "The Swan Boat Lake").
Nor at "Doggie Beach!."
***IMPORTANT NOTICE: Should You Spot Any FISH "Trapped" In Old Fishing Line, Phragmyte, Basically
Anything, Immediatley Notify Park Staff, Or Phone "311" To Report This.
Same Goes For Any other Park Wildlife. Help Protect Our Animal Kingdom Friends.
REFERENCE:
NYC DPR Brooklyn Parks-Prospect Park HQ, And The Prospect Park Alliance, Are Located In The Litchfield Villa At 95 Prospect
Park West At Around 5th. Street. The Honorable Julius Spiegel Is The Borough Commissioner; Tupper Thomas Is The Park Administrator/President
Of The Prospect Park Alliance.
;The Park Supervisor's Office Is Located In The Wollman Memorial Skating Rink. Special
Events Is Located In The Basement Rear Of The Litchfield Villa. Brooklyn NYC DPR Parks Enforcement Patrol (The "Pep's")- (District
#-4) Are Located In The Parade Grounds Admn. Building (Adjacent To The NYPD Bklyn. South Task Force Facility) At The "Parade
Grounds" (That Is Just Off Of Coney Island Avenue/Park Circle). NYC DPR Has Its Own Mounted Unit, Plus A "USR", Urban Search
And Rescue Team. And A top Notch Radio Communications Staff.
I Am Also One Of The Many Prospect Park Volunteers ("VIPP"). My Work Is For The Benefit Of All My
Fellow Park Anglers. My Personal Thanks To NY Senator Carl Andrews, And The Prospect Park Volunteer Office For Recongizing
My past Volunteer Work.
Fact: The PROSPECT LAKE Is In Fact "Not Just The Best BASS Fishing Lake In Long Island
and NYC Combined", But Is Home To "The Most Robust, Abundant Population Of Largemouth Freshwater Bass In All Of New York State!."
Yes, Here In Brooklyn. Our Home Lake Also Has An Over-Abundant Population Of Bluegill As Well. Plus, The Lake Is Also Home
To Carp, Bullhead Catfish, Muskie, Pumpkinseed Panfish, And Chain Pickerel.
As A Leading And Vocal
NYC DPR Park Angler, My Personal Overall Concerns And Goals Are As Follows:
Above All, Environmental Conservation;
Advocacy And Concern For The Proper Routine Maintenance And Preservation Of Our DPR Parks, Their Respective Lakes And Ponds,
Where Recreational Fishing Is Permissable; Advocacy, Education, Outreach For PROSPECT PARK, And The Promotion Of Recreational
Fishing And Volunteerism In PROSPECT PARK. Promotion Of Prospect Parks "Gem" Lake, And Recreational Fishing In It; The
Education Of Park-Users On The Official Rules And Regulations; Advocacy of Recreational Fishing In All Urban NYC DPR Parks;
And Assisting Amature Anglers On Learning The Proper Basics And Techniques Of Our Chosen Sport. I Personally Support
The Ongoing Activities Of The Prospect Park Alliance Community Committe (a-k-a The "Com Com"), "The BROOKLYN PARKS ADVOCATES",
And ("NY4P") "New Yorker's For Parks".
WHAT EVER BECAME OF The 'PROSPECT PARK ANGLERS ASSOCIATION' Ya Ask ? - Well, I Got Tired Of Running It and trying to get it off the ground from the start.
Other individual anglers Wanted To Do Their Own solo Thing, And yet still others did Not want to be
part Of An Organized Group. I Also Lost Personal Interest And Time To Devote To It. No One Else Wanted To Fill My Shoes. So
In The End We Individually Remain Members Of B.A.S.S.,N.A.F.C., Other Sporting Association and Clubs. Since You Cannot Hold
Legitimate Tournament Events In NYC Parks, Esp. Since A Boat Is Required, and That Was Another Factor. Majority Of Anglers
Desire Such Events, And We Could Not Offer That in that manner. Hell, even a local Chapter of B.A.S.S. or NAFC
cannot hold a tournament in the parks due to the "Boat" thing. How ever here in 2008, a few of Us do
have Our Own Small Private Parks Fishing Club (Membership Not Publicly Open).
